Azur development

Azur is the brainchild of Frederic Lacoste, a successful serial entrepreneur and property developer with roots in France. Frederic arrived in Panama 14 years ago at the end of a year-long round the world sail. He realised Panama was set to become Central America’s economic and commercial development centre and consequently invested in and started to restore properties in Panama City’s old town, Casco Viejo.

Frederic discovered Playa Venao and the neighbouring village of Cañas when it was no more than a dust patch in the sun but he saw the potential in its consistent surf-break, climate and unique location with its natural marina and protected nature.

Panama still combines undervalued land with socio-economic and geopolitical stability which will lead to an immense value increase over the next 5-8 years. The evidence from a comparative analysis of the property market development in neighbouring Costa Rica is conclusive with one exception, Panama promises larger returns and better living standards.

After a year-long investigation to find the best possible location for a luxury eco-development he managed to purchase the first line of hills facing the Isla Cañas natural reserve. With the help of an experienced team of architects, builders and property investors, Azur was born.

Today Frederic splits his time between Casco Viejo where he is developing a 200 unit site with K&B Financial Group and Azur where infrastructure and utility installations are in their last installation phase. He is also the main driving force for the Isla Cañas Marina and the owner of the two main surf schools on the Azuero Peninsula, the Playa Venao Surf Dojo and the Cañas Surf Dojo.

2010

The Azur hills are purchased and reforestation begins.

Azur is today home to a plethora of flora and fauna, from howler, white face and spider monkeys to whitetail deeer and countless species of birds.

2013

The new airport in Pedasí (30 minutes from Azur) opened.

2014

Zoning for a low-density gated community is completed, the masterplan is drawn up and road construction begins.

2015

Three wells were drilled, pipework was laid in parallel with the construction of XXX cisterns that will be able to provide XXX - enough for a large pool for each lot.

2016

The Ministry of Public Works (MPW) paved the road between Cañas and Playa Venao.

2017

Roads, water supply and drainage are completed for each lot and the MPW finished the 130km road improvement between Divisa and Pedasí.

2018

Azur’s electrical grid permit is approved and contractor evaluation begins. Salceda + Carballeda are engaged as architects for the project.

The MPW approved a 16.5 million investment to expand the national highway by 40km to Cañas from Los Asientos. The work will complete in 2020/21.

2019

Electricity is being installed and the sale of lots begins.
